Keloid Scar & Various Skin Condition Treatments Brisbane & Gold Coast
If you would like to know more about the keloid and various skin condition treatments, and what Ashbury Clinic in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast can do for you, please contact us today.
At Ashbury Clinic, we offer a range of treatments for various medical abnormalities, including skin cancers, keloids, and lesions.
When our skin is subject to traumas such as cuts, incision, or infection, the healing process starts almost immediately. The body automatically reacts to the trauma by closing up the wound or cut in the skin. This is a complex process which involves the development of new skin in the affected area.
In some people, the body’s level of skin “rejuvenation (not a medical term)” is excessive and the result is the formation of a raised feature known as a keloid
They may be uncomfortable or itchy, and may be much larger than the original wound. As wounds heal, scar tissue forms, which at first is often red and somewhat prominent. Over several months, a scar usually becomes flat and beige. If there is a lot of tension on a healing wound, the healing area is thicker than usual. This is known as a hypertrophic scar, which is a level lower than a keloid scar. There is no known cause for keloid formation.
Keloids are usually just a cosmetic problem. They never become malignant, but there is no satisfactory treatment for the majority of keloids, with surgical removal often being the only available option. This is performed with great care as it may result in a second keloid even larger than the original one. Special scar medication may be injected into the scar, and if repeated every few weeks, can eliminate or significantly reduce the appearance of the keloid.
One of the treatments we offer at Ashbury Clinic in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast is Erbium Laser and Dermapen. This Erbium laser and Dermapen treatment of the keloid scar has a high success rate. Another treatment involves freezing of the keloid with liquid nitrogen, and is another effective treatment method, as well as the use of a CO2 laser, which can help to reduce the formation of keloids within 3 months of surgery.
