Which Filler Lasts the Longest?

Synthetic fillers last longer than naturally-derived fillers. Because synthetic fillers don’t dissipate some people do refer to them as permanent fillers. The reason wrinkles start to return after treatment with this type of filler is because your skin doesn’t stop ageing. Also, sun damage can causes wrinkles even after treatment.

How Far does 1 ml of Filler go?

1ml of filler won’t go very far. Of course every patient is different and it also depends on which area you are having treated. Your desired outcome also has a role to play. If you want a few areas treated this could require at least 1ml per area.

How Filler Treatments Work

What are Wrinkles?

The development of wrinkles is a natural process and an inevitable part of ageing. As we age our skin gradually loses those natural substances that have kept it smooth and hydrated, we slowly lose skin elasticity and volume, allowing the formation of wrinkles.

From around the age of 15 our skin goes through fundamental change; oil production increases, pores get larger and the rate at which our skin heals itself slows. Over time we start to lose volume and fine lines begin to appear. Light blemishes and sun damage also become more prevalent. Thinning skin, drier complexion and reduced cell regeneration result in a rougher skin texture.

These factors mean those habitual creases and ridges that occur during expression are more likely to leave impressions. Even our genetic make-up influences how quickly and severely wrinkles form.

Different Types

There are two types of wrinkles: Dynamic and static.

Dynamic – Also known as expressive wrinkles, are formed by repetitive movement, for example everyday facial expressions like smiling and frowning.
Static – These wrinkles are more age-related and occur as skin sags because of the decrease in natural substances that keep skin firm, smooth and plump.

Common Formation Areas

Frown Lines – Concentrating or squinting leads to ingrained furrows between the eye brows. This can give the appearance of being unhappy, annoyed or cranky.
Forehead – Eyebrows and eyelids tend to sag over time and we compensate by using the forehead muscle, responsible for raising eyebrows, to counteract. This results in horizontal wrinkles.
Crows Feet – These usually appear when laughing or smiling. They are the clusters of tiny wrinkles that form around the outer corners of the eyes.
Bunny Lines – These form closely to each side of the nose and are related to crow’s feet, as they tend to originate from a lifetime of wide smiles.
Nasolabial Folds and Accordion Lines – They are the folds that run from each side of the nose to the corners of the mouth and separate the cheeks from the upper lip. This is one of the most common areas of risk, which grows in length and depth with age.
Neck – Every time you turn your head, swallow or speak, the neck is moving and stretching the skin. Repetitive gestures, when combined with sun damage, can cause deep lines and wrinkles on this area of the body.

How do wrinkle treatments work?

The main difference between wrinkle treatments and filler treatments is that injections are carried out mainly above the mid-face. For example the frown lines are and the crow’s feet. What it does is basically relaxes the muscles.

For frown lines, the treatment relaxes the frown muscle so that the muscle doesn’t crunch up and form lines. We have a number of patients that also benefit from the treatment because of tension headaches and migraine headaches. This is because wrinkle treatments relax the muscle that is causing the tension, alleviating the pain.

Who can get wrinkle treatments?

Our Ashbury patients come from all walks of life. Obviously the majority are ladies, but the men are catching up too! The ages range from mid-twenties to late-sixties, so we really treat a variety of ages from patient to patient.

How long do the injections last?

For wrinkle treatments, the longevity of the treatment can vary from one patient to the other. Results are typically noticeable 2 to 3 days post treatment and will reach their maximum potential around the 1-3 week mark post treatment.

Generally however the treatment will last between 3 and 4 months. For some lucky patients, the treatment lasts as long as 5 or 6 months. If you are a repeat customer, your results may last longer than the estimated time.

Does the procedure take long?

The wrinkle treatments are far simpler than the filler treatments. At our Ashbury clinics in Windsor, Upper Mt Gravatt, Indooroopilly and the Gold Coast, we provide wrinkle treatments that take typically only 10 minutes to perform.

We try to use the smallest needle possible. For most patients, they will only experience what feels like a small ant bite. Because the treatment is minimally invasive, patients often go straight back to work a few hours after their appointment. This is why we call it a lunch-time facelift!

So you’re putting chemicals on my face? Is this safe?

As the name ‘chemical’ peel suggests, we use chemical solutions to strip the damaged layers of the outer skin. At Ashbury Cosmetics we use the following chemicals to remove your damaged layers: AHA, BHA, Beta, Hydroxy, Acids, Lactic Acids and Phytotretinoin Peels.

BHAs are chemicals used for patients with thicker, acne prone, acne scarred, pigmented, clogged, oily and sebaceous skin.

Lactic Acids are most commonly used for softening fine lines, wrinkles, dehydrated mature skin types and hyperpigmented skin.

Phytotretinoin or Vitamin A peels are suitable for pigmentation, sun damage, oily, congested skin, fine lines, wrinkles, post-acne scarring and Rosacea.

These chemicals are clinically tested and safe to use on your skin, however before your treatment we will assess your skin and determine the most appropriate solution for you.

Can everyone get a chemical peel?

At Ashbury Clinic we will not perform a chemical peel if we think your skin is not suited for it. After a consultation where we can assess your skin, we will also discuss all of your skin treatment options to develop the most effective solution for your skin.

It is typically recommended that pregnant and nursing women do not receive peels as a precaution. There are no studies describing the effects of peels on fetuses or nursing babies and as such we take precautionary methods to avoid any future problems with your health or your child’s health.

We will not perform chemical peels if you are using or have used Accutane for less than 6 months. For patients who are prone to cold sores, we recommend taking an anti-viral medication before undergoing treatment. Often chemical peels can bring on an outbreak of cold sores if you are prone to them. Also if your skin has a high tendency to scar, or if you have an open sore, a chemical peel treatment may not be the best solution for you.

It’s important to note that everyone’s skin is different and will require a different treatment. Here at Ashbury Cosmetic Surgery we also offer laser treatments, which may be an alternative solution for your skin.

Laser treatment for your skin…

At Ashbury Clinic we use the revolutionary Erbium 5000C laser to gently remove the outer skin, layer by layer. So how does this treatment work? The Erbium laser uses very high energy beams of light to vaporize skin defects, which can penetrate the skin to a very precise, controlled depth, making the procedure safe and predictable, and reducing the risk of scarring or pigmentation problems. This may be a more effective solution for your skin type and after your consultation we will determine whether a chemical peel or laser solution is best for you.
