How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?
Dermal fillers can last between six months and two years. However, for semi-permanent and permanent fillers, there have been some reported cases of these lasting 5 years[1]. Factors which contribute to the lifetime of dermal fillers include:
- Which kind of filler used
- How well you look after your skin
- How many treatments you have per area
When you visit Ashbury Cosmetic Surgery, we can assess your skin and your desired outcome and suggest which filler is the best for your situation.
Which Dermal Filler Lasts the Longest?
There are so many dermal filler products out there it’s hard to know which is the most effective.
Naturally-derived fillers, which come with less risk of allergic reaction, provide immediate results but don’t last more than 18 months.
Synthetic fillers last longer than naturally-derived fillers. Because synthetic fillers don’t dissipate some people do refer to them as permanent fillers. The reason wrinkles start to return after treatment with this type of filler is because your skin doesn’t stop ageing. Also, sun damage can causes wrinkles even after treatment.
How Far does 1 ml of Dermal Filler go?
1ml of dermal filler won’t go very far. Of course every patient is different and it also depends on which area you are having treated. Your desired outcome also has a role to play. If you want a few areas treated this could require at least 1ml per area.
But the only way to provide an accurate answer is with a consultation at one of our practices in Brisbane or the Gold Coast.
How Dermal Fillers Work
Dermal fillers are injected into your skin to fill wrinkles on your face. The goal of dermal fillers is to provide a smooth, natural appearance. Dermal fillers are mostly natural and are slowly eventually absorbed by your body.
Once the filler is injected into your skin it creates volume, smoothing out wrinkles, plumping your lips or filling out folds.
How long for Dermal Fillers to settle?
How long it takes dermal fillers to settle depends on which type of filler is used. It also depends on how your body reacts to the filler. Some fillers can provide immediate results. Others may take hours or days to show results.
The injection site may be a little swollen for a day or two after treatment. When this subsides you will be able to see the results clearly.
How Safe are Dermal Fillers?
These fillers are as safe cosmetic injectables can be. The ingredients of both synthetic and naturally-derived dermal fillers are such that there should be very little risk of an adverse reaction.
But of course, there can be side effects associated with dermal fillers. These include: itching, bruising, swelling, pain and redness which can last a few days. In most cases however, these side effects abate, and you’re left with the intended outcome of the treatment.
In rare cases, patients receiving fillers have experienced allergic reactions. This is why it’s so important to inform your doctor of any allergies you may have.
