Is breast augmentation fake?

Is breast augmentation fake?

Or, why a job done well will look natural

Breast implants are the most popular cosmetic procedure for women. Arguably for men as well. In a previous article we mentioned that over 300,000 people undergo breast implant surgery a year: and that number is only increasing each year.

In an article on oprah.com, a writer discusses how men feel about breast implants and demonstrates through a couple of anecdotes the varying opinions of men on breast implants.

Generally, the consensus is that breast augmentation is a good thing: if the woman is happy with the decision and if the implants feel natural.

All the anecdotes the writer of the Oprah.com article used were situations where the women had chosen to undergo the procedure on their own volition. They were all happy…mostly, and so too were the men…mostly.

Breast implants and the question of fake-ness

Lots of women are concerned that their breast enhancement will look obvious and ‘fake’ – like hard plastic. It’s important to know that not all breast implant procedures look like this. In fact how authentic your appearance is depends on three things:

  1. Type of implants used
  2. Size of implants
  3. Quality of the procedure

At Ashbury Cosmetics in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast we offer two types of breast implants: saline and silicone gel.

One of the newer forms of silicone gel implants are Brazilian implants: these cohesive implant have a polyurethane foam surface, and a reduced risk of capsular contracture of around 1%.

Size of implants

Size does matter.

If you have a petite frame, then getting a D cup may not be the best option for you. Other factors to consider include: if you do a lot of running, exercise or play sports. Like most cosmetic surgical procedures breast augmentation is not a one-size-fits all.

When considering the ideal size for you, consult with a qualified surgeon (like our very own Dr Chen and Dr Boyle) as to what will best suit you.

Attention to detail is the key to natural looking implants

Drs Chen and Boyle say that the best chance for successful breast surgery is placing the implants correctly. By ensuring your implants fit naturally and are well supported, your breast augmentation will not look fake.

When done properly breast augmentation doesn’t look fake

Yes, everyone’s going to notice an increase in size, but with the right implant type, size, shape and placement your breast augmentation will look beautifully natural.
