Restore youthful firmness and proportions with face and neck lifts at Ashbury Cosmetics
Face lifts have become an increasingly popular trend amongst both men and women. The incredible effects of a natural looking, younger shape and tone can be achieved within the facial area with this surgical procedure. At Ashbury Cosmetics located in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast, we offer two forms of facelifts:
1. Mini facelift
What is a mini facelift?
The mini facelift procedure can be performed under local anaesthesia with twilight sedation. A small well-hidden incision is made behind the ear and tragus. Any excess skin will be removed in order to achieve a firmer and natural look. Liposuction can also be done at the same time if there is any fat deposit in the jowl and under the neck area. The mini facelift is less invasive compared to a standard face lift and therefore is safer and has a quicker healing time. There is less chance of nerve damage because no muscle is cut.
Who is it suited to?
The mini facelift procedure is suitable for a person that has some facial ageing, subtle or evident loosening of the tissue. This procedure is also suitable for somebody who requires extra work of rejuvenation but that cannot undergo a more intense surgery procedure such as an extensive face lift because of health and or social issues.
Is it suited for everybody?
Unfortunately, this procedure is not suited for everybody. This will be determined in the initial consultation. The patient may require a more involved surgery procedure such as a standard face lift and neck lift or Erbium laser resurfacing.
How fast to heal from mini facelift?
Normal physical or gym activities can be resumed in two weeks. Final results will be seen up to 4 to 8 weeks.
Is the mini facelift painful?
You should not feel any pain as a local anaesthetic is used. Once the local anaesthetic has worn off you may notice discomfort, which usually subsides after a few days. This can be eased with painkillers.
The risks and side effects?
With any procedure involving the skin there is a potential risk of infection, redness, bruising, swelling, scarring and delayed healing. Infection and scarring are rare, but possible.
- If you notice bunching of the skin, this usually settles with time.
- Swelling may occur; this may last a few weeks.
- If any infection occurs, this can be treated with antibiotics.
It is compulsory to stop smoking 6 weeks before and after surgery to prevent wound breakdown.
How much is a mini facelift?
During the consultation, your doctor will assess you and give you a quote, which is valid for three months from consultation date.
2. The standard face lift
This procedure involves the doctor creating an incision from behind the ear, along the ear lobe and to the back of the neck, this skin is then separated from the underlying muscle and the excess fat is removed. From this point the muscle and tissue that have been subjected to sagging are then tightened and the excess skin is removed to leave a noticeably more youthful and vibrant appearance. Our standard face lift is typically conducted over a 3-hour period in which local anaesthetic is administered with sedation or alternatively, general anaesthetic is used.
Immediate precautions must be taken to avoid sleeping in a flat position, with arrangements made to elevate the head off the bed to a sufficient level of comfort. Strenuous activity should also be avoided, along with overheating and sun-bathing for 2 or 3 weeks. Patients are also instructed to refrain from driving for up to 3 weeks and where pets may be present in the patient’s household, measures should be taken to avoid close contact, where potential contamination or infection might occur.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the questions our patients have asked prior to undergoing face and neck lift procedures:
After surgery the scars will be visible, however, after a few weeks they will fade gradually. It is important to note that the incision size will be small and any scarring will be concealed under the chin and at the ears where your hairline will hide the scar.
There will be some discomfort after a neck lift. The most common feeling is tightness in the neck, however this generally lasts only a few days after the procedure.
Downtime for this procedure can be around 5 to 10 days. Prior to treatment, we will tailor a recovery treatment plan to suit your needs.
For this procedure you will need 1 to 2 days of complete rest. After that you will need at least a week of reduced activity as well as a 2 week break from work. However, some cases do vary so your Ashbury Cosmetic surgeon will tell you everything you need to know about the recovery process.
As this is a surgical procedure there will be scars, however these scars will be located in the natural folds so they will be disguised. A few weeks after surgery the scars will begin to fade.
