At Ashbury Clinic located in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast, we offer two forms of facelifts.
Facelifts have become an increasingly popular trend amongst both men and women. The incredible effects of a natural looking, younger shape and tone can be achieved within the facial area with this surgical procedure.
What is a mini facelift?
The mini facelift procedure can be performed under local anaesthesia with twilight sedation. A small, well-hidden incision is made behind the ear and tragus. Any excess skin will be removed in order to achieve a firmer and natural look. Liposuction can also be done at the same time if there is any fat deposit in the jowl and under the neck area. The mini facelift is less invasive compared to a standard face lift and, therefore, is safer and has a quicker healing time. There is less chance of nerve damage because no muscle is cut.
Who is it suited to?
The mini facelift procedure is suitable for a person that has some facial ageing, and subtle or evident loosening of the tissue. This procedure is also suitable for somebody who requires extra rejuvenation, but cannot undergo a more intense surgery procedure such as an extensive face lift because of health and or social issues.
Is it suited for everybody?
Unfortunately, this procedure is not suited for everybody. This will be determined in the initial consultation. The patient may require a more involved surgical procedure, such as a standard face and neck lift or Erbium laser resurfacing.
How fast is it to heal from a mini facelift?
Normal physical or gym activities can be resumed in two weeks. Final results will be seen up to 4 to 8 weeks later.
Is the mini facelift painful?
You should not feel any pain as a local anaesthetic is used. Once the local anaesthetic has worn off, you may notice discomfort, which usually subsides after a few days. This can be eased with painkillers.
How much is a mini facelift?
During the consultation, your doctor will assess you and give you a quote which is valid for three months from the consultation date.
The risks and side effects?
With any procedure involving the skin, there is a potential risk of infection, redness, bruising, swelling, scarring, and delayed healing. Infection and scarring are rare, but possible.
- If you notice bunching of the skin, this usually settles with time.
- Swelling may occur; this may last a few weeks.
- If any infection occurs, this can be treated with antibiotics.
It is compulsory to stop smoking 6 weeks before and after surgery to prevent wound breakdown.

What is a standard face lift?
This procedure involves the doctor creating an incision from behind the ear, along the ear lobe, and to the back of the neck. This skin is then separated from the underlying muscle and the excess fat is removed. From this point, the muscle and tissue that have been subjected to sagging are then tightened and the excess skin is removed to leave a noticeably more youthful and vibrant appearance. Our standard face lift is typically conducted over a 3-hour period in which local anaesthetic is administered with sedation or, alternatively, general anaesthetic is used.
Post-operative care
Immediate precautions must be taken to avoid sleeping in a flat position, with arrangements made to elevate the head off the bed to a sufficient level of comfort. Strenuous activity should also be avoided, along with overheating and sun-bathing for 2 or 3 weeks. Patients are also instructed to refrain from driving for up to 3 weeks an,d where pets may be present in the patient’s household, measures should be taken to avoid close contact, as potential contamination or infection might occur.
What age groups are facelifts for?
Ashbury Clinic has experience treating patients from various walks of life. We often see many patients in their 40s and older, but if your face is showing signs of ageing at a younger age then the mini facelift may be especially effective for you. Facelifts are performed at the patient’s discretion, granted there are no associated risks.
What sort of scarring will I experience?
This depends on the lift you have done; however, as this is a surgical procedure, you will experience some scarring. Your doctor will ensure that they take advantage of your hair line, ears, and the natural curves of the face to conceal any scarring. Most commonly for mini facelifts, our incisions are made around the ear and are easily concealable within the cartilage and creases there.
Should I get a facelift or a necklift?
This depends on what areas you wish to target around your face. If you are most worried about fatty deposits or sagging skin around your jaw and neck, then a necklift may be more suitable to you. If, however, you are worried about the skin covering your mid-face and cheeks, a mini facelift may be optimal. Your Ashbury Clinic doctor will ensure you are fully informed before you commit to a procedure.
What won’t a mini facelift do?
A facelift does not change the fundamental appearance of your face. This procedure is purely restorative, meaning that it enhances your natural features and does not modify the structure of your face. Although we cannot stop the ageing process, we can give you a rejuvenated and refreshed appearance.
