Your Liposuction FAQS Answered By Ashbury
Liposuction is a popular treatment that many of us know so little about…
At Ashbury Cosmetic Surgery we can help you understand more about the liposuction treatment. Did you know that liposuction is the most requested cosmetic surgery treatment in the world? With a large portion of the world’s population opting liposuction treatment there is still a lot that people don’t know about the procedure, the benefits and the different methods used. We hope to share our knowledge with you to help spread the facts and answer your frequently asked questions.
What is the procedure?
At Ashbury we use local anaesthetics during the procedure, you will be awake during treatment and will be able to communicate and be a part of the procedure. We find that this is the easiest and most successful way of performing the treatment and let’s our patients feel comfortable knowing they will be aware of what is going on throughout the treatment. In some cases, a patient who is more anxious or concerned with being awake may request to have general anaesthetic.
What result can expect after my liposuction treatment?
Before undergoing liposuction it’s important to have realistic expectations about the treatment. While liposuction is designed to reduce the signs of excess fat and sagging, you cannot assume that this treatment will give you a perfect body. Liposuction works in confined areas only, and is not used for the whole body in general. Often liposuction is most suited for patients who have already lost weight through proper eating and exercise, but struggle with a problem area.
Will I lose weight when I get my liposuction treatment?
Many patients do experience weight loss; however, your weight shouldn’t be your concern after liposuction, this treatment is about sculpting and because fat itself is light, there may be no significant loss of weight.
How much fat can I have removed?
The amount of fat removed in one single treatment is dependent on the limits to the amount of local anaesthetic that can be used safely in one operation. If large amounts of fat need to be removed, we will have to do this over more than one treatment. At Ashbury Cosmetic Surgery we encourage our patients to start a healthy eating and exercise plan before their surgery to lose weight naturally and then through liposuction you can enhance your new lifestyle.
Will my liposuction last forever?
Liposuction is extremely effective in removing excess fat cells quickly; however, this does not mean that they are will not return. Your remaining cells may increase in size and ability to store fat when large amounts are consumed. Lack of care for your body after surgery can cause the fat to return and potentially cause even greater long term problems.
Is there much down time after the surgery?
Every patient’s recovery time is different depending on the surgery, the technique used, and each individual’s body type and age. Most times patients are able to go back to work in an average of 5 to 7 days after the treatment.
At Ashbury Cosmetic Surgery we want to keep our patients as informed as possible, which is why we are answering your most frequently asked questions. This is just a list of some of the questions that are most commonly asked, but during your consultation we will make sure we explain every step of the way.
