Removing Varicose Veins Isn’t Just A Cosmetic Treatment
With the summer heat soon approaching concerns about varicose veins are nearing, however treatment will not only improve the appearance of your legs but may save you future health problems…
The removal of varicose veins is most commonly associated with cosmetics for aesthetic reasons but did you know that removal can also help you avoid future health problems. At Ashbury Cosmetics we can help treat your varicose veins to help prevent other future health problems while removing the unsightly appearance of varicose veins.
Varicose veins can induce other health problems…
Often sufferers of varicose and spider veins can be subject to varying levels of pain, often described as an aching or cramping in the legs. Other symptoms include tiredness, burning, tingling, restlessness, throbbing, or heaviness in the legs is also experienced. More serious health problems include
1) Swelling
Swelling as a result of varicose veins is not common however still possible. Usually the varicose veins are fairly large before the leg swells and often it is just one leg that will swell
2) Inflammation or thrombophlebitis
This condition often referred to as ‘phlebitis’, is concerned with inflammation of the veins. If you are suffering from varicose veins you may have encountered soreness or irritation wherein the veins become red, painful and tender to touch.
While it’s possible for superficial vein phlebitis to become deep vein phlebitis (a condition that can cause blood clots), it’s unusual
3) Skin discolouration
In severe cases of varicose veins skin discoloration can occur to the surrounding skin. Often blood will slip out of the vein into the surrounding tissues of the leg or foot. This can result in the skin becoming discoloured and can advance into eczema and in more severe cases, a skin ulcer (which is a skin sore that can be extremely difficult to remove).
How can I get rid of them?
At Ashbury Cosmetic Surgery we offer multiple treatment options to help remove your varicose veins. Most frequently we use Sclerotherapy or laser treatment as methods for removing unwanted veins. These treatments are virtually painless and effectively remove varicose and spider veins.
Sclerotherapy treatment for varicose veins…
Sclerotherapy treatments involve the injection of a chemical that ‘scleroses’ or gums up the varicose veins. The vein’s lining will become irritated and accordingly collapse, and stick together. The vein will become redundant and gradually become reabsorbed by the body, after a period of a few weeks, the walls of the veins naturally seal together so the vein can no longer carry blood.
Laser treatment for varicose veins…
At Ashbury Cosmetic Surgery we also use laser treatments to treat varicose veins. The process for laser treatments is quite simple but may need to be performed in more than appointment. The laser heat damages a vein, which makes scar tissue form. This scar tissue will then close the vein, when a vein is closed it loses its source of blood and dies.
